Welcome!
My name is Michaela Bayona: I am an archivist, an academic, and librarian. I graduated from the University of Washington iSchool in June 2025, where I developed my passions for outreach, archiving, and academic research. My goal is to obtain a position as a librarian or archivist in either public or academic sectors.
I have held positions in the library as an Information Desk Assistant, Archival Intern, and Academic Librarian Intern—these experiences have allowed me to build upon the librarianship pedagogy I received from the University of Washington. With my career goals in mind, I am seeking positions as librarian that will allow me to build upon the theoretical, technical, and practical skills I have gained from my previous experiences.
Growing up, I never saw Filipino voices in my local public library or school library— despite the long hours I would spend reading and studying there. I never felt represented in the media I consumed or felt like my voice mattered. Somewhere in my life's journey, society started to shift and I started to see myself and other minority voices start to be heard. This has inspired me to use my own voice and be a part of that paradigm shift.
My philosophy towards librarianship lies in the need to elevate minority voices in academic spaces, showing to people that we have always been here and serve as valuable part of history. I am here to help create change.

June 2025
I received my MLIS in June 2025. During my time as a student I focused on classes regarding social justice, archives, academic libraries, digital preservation, and cataloging. This allowed me the opportunity to create a foundation for my future career aspirations. The UW's focus on IDEAs in their education is something I have taken to heart in my own librarianship work.

June 2016
I received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Associates in Theatre Arts. During this time I also worked as a student assistant librarian; this gave me experience at the circulation desk as well as in the special collections department. Working there planted the seeds for a future career in academic librarianship and archiving.

Selected Work Experiences
My background is fairly broad; I wanted to explore as many facets of librarianship as I could, which has given me the chance to find my true passion within the field. The projects listed here are examples of my main bodies of work in public libraries, academic archives, and academic librarianship.
